Preparing Tomorrow's Innovators: The Launch of Chip, Chip, Hooray!

12/10/2024

In an exciting leap forward for Idaho’s educational landscape, Boise State’s Institute for Microelectronics Education and Research, in collaboration with the Idaho Digital Learning Alliance, has unveiled a pioneering course titled Chip, Chip, Hooray! Tailored for students in grades 8-10, this groundbreaking initiative is set to equip the next generation with essential skills in the semiconductor and microelectronics sectors.

Chip, Chip, Hooray!

As part of a larger national effort following the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, this course aims to ignite passion and curiosity in young minds, preparing them to thrive in cutting-edge industries pivotal to today’s technology-driven world. The program strives to demystify the semiconductor field, offering students hands-on experience and insight into this critical area of innovation.

Debuting in the fall semester of the 2024-25 academic year, Chip, Chip, Hooray! has already made waves with an enrollment surge of nearly 200% compared to typical new courses. Jolene Del Re, director of curriculum at the Idaho Digital Learning Alliance, noted the impressive turnout: “A brand-new class will get around 30 to 50 enrollments. We started with over 120 students, so this is a great success!

The course has attracted interest from students across Idaho, from New Meadows to Montpelier, showcasing a remarkable statewide engagement in semiconductor education. This diverse representation underscores the significance of this initiative, as it fosters an inclusive environment for aspiring innovators eager to explore new frontiers in technology.

By making semiconductor education accessible and engaging, Chip, Chip, Hooray! represents a significant milestone in empowering Idaho's youth. It not only cultivates future leaders in technology but also contributes to a brighter, more innovative future for the state and the nation as a whole
